First Time at a Spa: What to Expect | Guest Post

If you haven’t had a spa treatment before, why on earth not? Everyone deserves a break from normality sometimes, and there’s no better way for a woman to relax and be pampered than with a luxurious spa treatment. It’s understandable that, the first time you head off to a spa, you may feel a little anxious about what you can expect. Once you’ve been though, you’re sure to feel more confident about visiting again, and again.
Remember that every spa you visit is different, but the fundamentals remain the same. Whether it’s a posh day spa in a swanky hotel, or a trip to the local salon for a well-deserved treatment, a pampering session is a perfect way to feel rejuvenated and invigorated. But, what should you expect?
If you’re a spa first timer, you may think that you have to be in the nude to enjoy a massage or treatment, but this isn’t the case. Modesty is extremely important within a spa setting, and swimwear is the ideal apparel to wear. Take along one or two of the great value George bikinis available online and instore, so that you can keep the bottom half on when enjoying a back massage. You could take another one too, if you like, so that you can enjoy the pool, steam room and sauna facilities.
When you call to book your appointment, ask any questions that may be on your mind. You won’t be the first person to do so, and you certainly won’t be the last. It’s natural to have questions for something you haven’t experienced before, and the staff at good spas are more than happy to answer them for you. When choosing your treatments, ask necessary questions about them too, so that you can book in for a treatment that suits you and your preferences perfectly.
Depending on the spa, you will be given a robe and slippers upon arrival (or they’ll be in your locker, waiting for you). Sometimes, it can cost extra to use them – if this is the case, and you don’t want to spend the extra cash, take your own so that you can still feel comfortable.
Take the time to enjoy the other facilities that are available, as well as the treatments that you have booked in for. Steam rooms, pools, aromatherapy rooms, saunas – every spa centre  will have different facilities on offer which you can enjoy to make the most out of your experience.

Spas provide an incredibly nurturing experience. Bear in mind what you can afford and how much the various treatments cost and enjoy the experience as much as possible. Whether it’s a gift certificate from a loved one, or you just fancy treating yourself, your first time at a day spa is bound to be a nervous one, but once you have one visit under your robe belt, you will be counting down the days until your next treatment.
